From a drive you did not record to a number you can use
Trips are captured on their own, then reviewed by you. Nothing counts towards your estimate until you have said it was for work.
Records the drive
Start time, finish time, the route between them and the distance in kilometres. The app does not need to be open and there is no button to press.
Waits for you to confirm
New trips land in a review queue that says how the drive ended — signal lost, stopped automatically, or snoozed. You mark it business or private. Private trips are kept, and shown as not claimable.
Totals your deduction
Confirmed business kilometres are totalled at the ATO rate for the financial year — 91 cents per kilometre for 2026–27 — and shown as a running estimate.
Watches the 5,000 km cap
A bar shows how much of the 5,000 km limit you have used and how much is left. The limit applies to each car separately, so every car gets its own bar.
Keeps cars apart
A trip belongs to a vehicle, which you name yourself. A household with two cars keeps two sets of totals and two caps.
Saves, backs up and exports
A trip is saved on this phone first, then backed up to your account. Export every trip as a CSV spreadsheet, or a summary PDF for one financial year.

Turn on automatic tracking
Grant background location once. Tracking can be paused from Settings whenever you want, and there is a home screen widget if you would rather start a trip yourself.

Drive
Recording starts when movement begins and stops shortly after you park. The trip appears in your list, saved on this phone, then backed up to your account.

Confirm the ones for work
Open the review queue when it suits you. Each pending trip says how the drive ended. Mark it business or private, and the deduction estimate updates.
Trips count the kilometres. The logbook counts the fuel.
The logbook records what went into the tank: station, fuel type, litres, the price you paid and the odometer reading. Trips and fills sit in the same place, so distance and spend are read side by side. Unlike trips, the logbook works in every market Petrol Smart serves.
