Perth drivers caught a welcome break this week. Metro U91 dropped 4.2c to settle at 177.1 c/L, and diesel fell even harder, shedding 5.9c to hit 210.8 c/L. Across every fuel type on sale in WA, prices moved in the right direction.

Rural drivers did see prices ease, but the gap with metro remains significant. Filling a 60-litre tank in a rural area costs roughly $8.58 more for U91 and a steep $12.66 more for diesel compared to Perth, which adds up fast for anyone doing regular regional kilometres.

Diesel was the standout mover this week, down 5.9c in metro and 4.9c in rural areas. That's meaningful relief for tradies and freight operators who've been grinding through elevated diesel costs all month.

U91 had an interesting week rather than a straight slide. Metro prices actually climbed from 178.4c on Monday to a mid-week peak of 183.4c on Wednesday before reversing sharply. By Sunday they'd fallen all the way to 171.2c, meaning drivers who held off mid-week were rewarded with prices nearly 12 cents cheaper than Tuesday's high.

P95 followed a near-identical pattern, peaking at 199.0c on Wednesday and finishing the week at 186.1c in metro. If you run premium and noticed prices jumping around, that's why.

P98 told much the same story, touching 207.8c mid-week before retreating to 195.6c by Sunday.

WA metro U91 at 177.1 c/L sits 3.8c below the national metro average of 180.9 c/L, so Perth drivers are doing better than most of the country right now.

The spread between the cheapest and priciest metro stations this week was extraordinary. Vibe Oakford Truckstop offered U91 at 162.5 c/L, while Independent Hills Emporio was charging 216.9 c/L. That's a 54.4c gap on the same fuel in the same city.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Metro Petroleum averaged 169.4c, Burk came in at 169.6c, and Liberty sat at 170.8c. At the other end, Independent averaged 197.2c, nearly 28 cents more per litre than the cheapest brands. On a 60-litre fill, that's a difference of almost $17 depending purely on which sign you pull into.

Best Day to Fill Up Last Week in WA

Last Sunday (31 May) was the cheapest day of the week to fill up, with metro U91 touching 171.2 c/L. That mid-week spike to 183.4c caught plenty of drivers out. Watching the daily trend before you fill is genuinely worth doing.

WA Metro Petrol Price Forecast: Early June

The forecast for metro U91 looks encouraging. Prices are tipped to continue falling, from the current 177.1 c/L down to 168.6 c/L on Monday (78% confidence), 166.9 c/L on Tuesday (71% confidence), and 165.1 c/L on Wednesday (65% confidence). That would put metro U91 close to its 30-day low of 157.3c, though confidence drops as you look further out.

How to Save on Fuel in WA This Week

If you can hold off filling up, the forecast suggests doing so could save you close to 12 cents per litre compared to today's metro price. Stick to the cheaper brands, Metro Petroleum, Burk, and Liberty, and you could be looking at sub-170c U91 by midweek. Rural drivers won't see those prices, but the downward trend is real across the state.
