Diesel drivers in WA have had a very welcome week. Metro diesel dropped a hefty 13.1 cents to land at 222.3 c/L, one of the more significant single-week falls we've seen in a while. Across the board, most fuel types eased lower, giving WA motorists a rare bit of breathing room heading into the back half of May.

Rural drivers are still paying 14.6 cents more per litre than metro for U91, and a painful 20.2 cents more for diesel. On a 60-litre fill, that rural diesel gap costs an extra $12.12 compared to metro rates.

Biggest Movers in WA Fuel Prices This Week

Diesel was the standout story. Metro prices fell consistently across every day of the week, dropping from 228 c/L on Monday the 11th all the way down to 219.3 c/L by Sunday the 17th. That's a smooth, steady decline with no reversals, which is relatively unusual. Rural diesel followed the same path, sliding from 246.8 c/L to 239.6 c/L before ticking up slightly to 240.7 c/L on Sunday.

LPG moved in the opposite direction. Metro LPG crept up from 151.4 c/L on Monday to close the week at 152 c/L, a modest rise of +0.6 cents. Rural LPG jumped much harder, leaping from 192.5 c/L on Monday to 196.6 c/L by Tuesday and holding there for the rest of the week, a gain of +6.7 cents overall. U91 had a mid-week blip worth flagging. Metro prices climbed from 176.2 c/L on Monday up to 181.8 c/L by Wednesday, then reversed and fell back to 176.6 c/L by Sunday. Anyone who filled up mid-week paid roughly 5 cents more than they needed to.

Metro U91 in WA sits at 178 c/L, which is 4 cents below the national average of 182 c/L. Only South Australia is cheaper among Australian states, averaging 177.6 c/L. NSW drivers are copping the worst of it at 186.5 c/L.

The gap between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations this week is a staggering 91.1 cents per litre. The cheapest metro option came in at 158.9 c/L at Vibe Kwinana Town Centre, while an Independent station at Chidlow Growers Mart Liquor Store was priced at 250 c/L. That difference on a 60-litre fill is over $54.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Among metro U91 brands with meaningful coverage, Burk averaged just 166.3 c/L across 9 stations, Liberty came in at 169.9 c/L, and Atlas sat at 170.9 c/L. At the other end, Independent brand stations averaged 200 c/L. That's a 33.7-cent gap between the cheapest and priciest brands. Where you fill up in Perth genuinely matters.
