Diesel drivers in WA just got a significant reprieve. Metro diesel plunged 17.8c this week to 242.7 c/L, one of the steepest single-week drops we've seen in months. And if you're running on unleaded, U91 has now fallen for four consecutive weeks, sitting at 179.9 c/L metro — giving WA drivers real momentum heading into May.

Biggest WA Fuel Price Movers This Week

Diesel is the clear headline. A 17.8c metro drop and an even larger 18.9c fall in rural areas means truckies and tradies travelling beyond the metro fringe are paying 263.6 c/L instead of last week's much steeper figure. That's real money back in the tank for anyone doing serious kilometres.

U91 told an interesting intra-week story. Prices climbed from 178.2c on Monday through to a mid-week peak of 185.2c on Wednesday, then reversed sharply, sliding all the way to 177.3c by Sunday. The pattern was consistent across P95 and P98 too, with both premium grades peaking Wednesday before easing into the weekend.

P95 followed the same arc, touching 200.6c metro mid-week before pulling back to 192.1c by Sunday. P98 peaked at 209.7c Wednesday and closed the week at 202.0c metro.

WA Metro Station Price Range: How Much Shopping Around Saves

This is where the numbers get striking. The cheapest metro station recorded 149.3 c/L this week, while the priciest came in at 250.0 c/L. That's a 100.7c gap between the two extremes — on a 60-litre fill, that's a difference of more than $60.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Liberty and Burk both averaged 169.0c for metro U91, with United close behind at 171.4c. At the other end, Independent stations averaged 210.2c — a 41.2c gap over the cheapest options. Ampol averaged 187.9c, which is nearly 19 cents above the cheapest brands available. Knowing which brand you're pulling into genuinely matters.

Cheapest Day to Fill Up Last Week

Last Sunday (3 May) was the cheapest day of the week for metro U91, averaging 177.3c — a full 7.9c lower than the Wednesday peak. If your schedule allows any flexibility around fill-ups, mid-week is consistently the worst time to go.

The outlook for metro U91 stays in downward territory. The forecast sits at 176.4c for Monday, 176.2c Tuesday, and 175.9c on Wednesday, each below the current metro average of 179.9 c/L. Confidence ranges from 78% to 65%, so it's a reasonable guide but not a certainty. These forecasts apply to metro WA only.

On the national picture, WA metro U91 at 179.9c sits just 0.8c below the national average of 180.7c, with SA the cheapest state at 175.1c.

How to Save on Fuel in WA This Week

With U91 metro now down four weeks running and the current price of 179.9c sitting comfortably within the lower half of its 30-day range (low: 149.3c, high: 269.0c), conditions are better than they've been for a while. The forecast suggests further softening, so if you're not urgent, holding off a day or two could shave a couple more cents off. Diesel's massive drop is worth acting on now if you run a diesel vehicle. And whatever fuel you use, the brand you choose matters more in WA than almost anywhere — a 41c gap between the cheapest and priciest brands is not something to ignore.
