VIC Petrol Prices This Week: The Key Movers

U91 has now risen for two consecutive weeks, sitting at 187.1c/L in metro Melbourne. That's 3.3c above the national metro average of 183.8c/L, and only 0.5c shy of NSW, which is the most expensive state in the country right now.

The daily trend tells an interesting story. Metro U91 drifted steadily downward through the week, from 187.9c on Monday the 18th to a low of 186.6c on Saturday the 23rd, before ticking back up slightly. Rural prices did the opposite, rising from 187.3c to 188.7c by Sunday, meaning country drivers ended the week paying more than their city counterparts.

Diesel fell sharply and consistently across both metro and rural Victoria. Metro prices dropped from 239.1c on Monday all the way to 234.2c by Saturday, a slide of nearly 5c across the week alone. Rural followed suit, finishing at 238.3c after opening at 241.9c.

Premium grades moved in step with U91. P95 metro climbed 4.0c to 203.4c/L, while P98 added 3.8c to reach 212.0c/L. P95 rural is actually the cheapest premium option this week at 200.9c/L, sitting below its metro equivalent.

The gap between the cheapest and most expensive metro station this week is genuinely staggering. The lowest recorded metro price is 149.9c/L at LMCT+ Preston (members only), while the highest is 400.0c/L at Astron Langwarrin. That's a 250c spread, which is as stark a reminder as you'll get that where you fill up matters enormously.

Looking at brand averages, Costco comes in cheapest at 174.1c for metro U91, followed by Apco at 176.0c. At the other end, Caltex averages 190.3c and Ampol 189.9c. That's a 16c gap between the cheapest and priciest brands, which adds up fast if you're filling a 60-litre tank.

Last Saturday, the 23rd, was the cheapest day to fill up metro U91 last week, averaging 186.6c/L. If you caught it then, you did well.

Supply Watch for VIC Drivers

LPG availability has tightened slightly, with 60 stations currently reporting stock issues, up from 57 last week. P95 is also worth watching, with 31 stations flagged as dry, up from 27. Neither is cause for alarm, but if your usual station runs P95 or LPG, it's worth having a backup in mind.

Metro U91 is expected to keep rising through the back end of May. The forecast has it at 187.6c/L on Sunday the 25th, climbing to 188.7c/L on Monday, and reaching 189.1c/L by Tuesday. That's nearly 2c above the current weekly average of 187.1c/L, so if you haven't filled up yet, sooner is better.

How to Save on Fuel in VIC This Week

The diesel drop is the biggest win this week, down 5.6c metro and 6.0c rural. If you drive diesel, fill up now before the trend reverses.

For petrol drivers, the numbers are moving the wrong way. With U91 rising for a second straight week and the forecast pointing higher, topping up before Tuesday makes sense. Sticking with Costco or Apco over Caltex could save you close to $10 on a standard fill.
