That diesel fall didn't happen all at once. Prices eased steadily through the week, starting at 245.7c/L on Monday the 11th and sliding every single day down to 239.8c/L by Saturday. Rural drivers saw an even bigger drop of 9.8c, with prices falling from 251.4c/L to 242.2c/L across the same period. If you've been putting off a diesel fill on a longer run, the trend has been working in your favour.

U91 told a different story. Prices drifted down through mid-week, touching 181.8c/L on Thursday and Friday before climbing back to 186.0c/L metro by Sunday. That Sunday spike is a reminder that waiting too long in the weekly cycle can cost you a few cents per litre.

How to Save on Fuel in VIC This Week

The gap between the cheapest and priciest metro stations is enormous right now. Even ignoring the members-only outlier, choosing a budget brand over a major can save you close to 18c/L on U91. With prices forecast to rise above 188c/L this weekend, filling up today at 183.3c/L metro average could save a full tank's worth of money. Rural drivers who held off last week benefited from a 1.8c drop, but with supply of diesel tightening slightly, don't leave it too long if you're heading regional.
