Petrol prices fell sharply across Victoria this week, but diesel told a very different story. Metro U91 dropped 8.6c to land at 223.9 c/L, yet diesel jumped 13.9c to 322 c/L, making it a week of winners and losers depending on what you drive.

Biggest Movers in Victorian Petrol Prices This Week

E10 was the standout performer for petrol drivers, falling 9.9c in metro areas to 221.8 c/L. That's the steepest drop of any fuel type this week, and at just 2.1c below U91 metro, it's the cheapest option for compatible cars.

U91 dropped steadily throughout the week, sliding from 228.5c on Monday 6 April down to 220.7c by Sunday 12 April. That's a smooth, consistent fall with no mid-week reversal, which is actually unusual. Drivers who filled up early in the week paid noticeably more.

Diesel was the exception. It climbed hard from 311.1c on Monday to a peak of 327.7c on Thursday 10 April before easing back slightly to 320.3c on Sunday. That mid-week spike adds up fast for anyone running a diesel vehicle or business fleet. The gap between metro diesel and U91 has blown out to 98.1c per litre, which is an exceptionally wide margin.

Premium grades P95 and P98 both tracked lower alongside U91, falling 8.0c and 8.5c respectively. P98 metro averaged 248.4 c/L for the week.

How Much Victorian Drivers Can Save by Shopping Around

The spread between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations is staggering. Burk Kingsville averaged 206.3 c/L while Astron Langwarrin hit 400 c/L. That's a nearly 194c difference on the same grade, and it's a reminder that where you fill up matters enormously.

Brand averages also show a meaningful gap worth knowing about. Costco came in cheapest at 214.7c per litre for metro U91, followed by Apco at 216.5c and United at 221.7c. At the pricier end, Caltex averaged 237.3c, a full 22.6c more than Costco per litre.

Cheapest Day to Fill Up in VIC Last Week

Last Sunday, 12 April, was the cheapest day of the week for metro U91 at 220.7 c/L. The weekly slide was consistent enough that waiting paid off. Rural drivers saw a similar pattern, with prices easing from 235.4c on Monday to 228.2c by Sunday.

VIC Metro U91 Price Forecast: What's Coming This Week

Monday 13 April is forecast to tick up slightly to 226.0 c/L (77% confidence), which sits 2.1c above the current metro average of 223.9 c/L. Prices are then expected to settle back down, with Tuesday forecast at 223.9 c/L and Wednesday at 223.4 c/L (69% confidence). These forecasts apply to metro VIC only.

It's also worth flagging that VIC is currently the most expensive state in the country for metro U91 at 223.9 c/L, sitting 1.5c above the national average of 222.4 c/L.

How to Save on Fuel in VIC Right Now

If you drive a petrol car, E10 at 221.8 c/L metro is your cheapest fill this week. Switching from U91 to E10 saves around 2c per litre if your car is compatible. Diesel drivers are copping a rough run and there's no sugar-coating that 13.9c weekly rise.
