Biggest Movers in SA Petrol Prices This Week

Diesel is the star of the week. Metro diesel tumbled 8.1c to 193.2 c/L, the sharpest single-week drop of any fuel type. Rural diesel followed with a 6.7c fall to 210.1 c/L. That's meaningful savings for tradies and anyone doing long country runs.

E10 also moved significantly, falling 3.5c in metro areas to 150.5 c/L. It's the cheapest fuel available in SA right now, and with 31 metro stations stocking it, worth checking if your car can run it.

U91 continued its steady slide throughout the week. Metro prices eased from 159c on Monday the 15th down to 154.2c by Sunday the 21st, a smooth, consistent fall with no mid-week spikes or reversals. Rural U91 followed a similar path, dropping from 182.6c to 179.2c across the same period.

P95 and P98 both dipped by 1.8c in metro, landing at 173 c/L and 181.6 c/L respectively. Rural P98 actually ticked up a fraction on the final day of the week, from 198.8c on Saturday to 198.9c on Sunday, a minor blip but worth keeping an eye on.

SA metro U91 at 156.7 c/L sits 6.7c below the national metro average of 163.4 c/L. ACT drivers are paying the most nationally at 170.9 c/L, so South Australians are in a genuinely strong position right now.

Shopping around still makes a real difference. The cheapest metro station this week was Costco Kilburn at 144.7 c/L for U91, while the priciest was Independent Marina Fuel at 199.9 c/L. That's a 55.2c gap between the two on the same fuel type.

Brand averages tell a similar story. SOLO averaged 152.2c, U-Go 152.3c, and Mobil 153c, all well below EG Ampol at 165.2c and Independent at 165.4c. Choosing the right brand could save you more than 13c per litre on a tank.

Don't wait for the top of the cycle to catch you out, it will turn eventually.
