Diesel drivers in SA copped a rough week. While petrol prices eased across the board, metro diesel jumped 16.4c to land at 320.0 c/L, making it the standout mover in an otherwise softening market.

Biggest SA Fuel Price Movers This Week

LPG had the most dramatic swing, with metro prices dropping 21.9c to 101.1 c/L. If you're running a gas-converted vehicle in Adelaide, that's a meaningful saving on a full tank.

Diesel told a very different story. Metro prices climbed from 309.2 c/L on Monday to a mid-week peak of 328.9 c/L on Thursday before pulling back to close the week around 318.3 c/L. That mid-week spike would have stung anyone who filled up Wednesday or Thursday.

Petrol grades all drifted lower through the week. U91 metro eased steadily from 223.9 c/L on Monday to 219.5 c/L by Sunday, with the sharpest fall coming on Friday. P95 and P98 followed an almost identical pattern, both shedding around 3.3–3.4c across the week.

E10 finished the week as the cheapest petrol option, averaging just 217.8 c/L metro, though availability is limited to 31 metro stations. Worth checking if there's one on your regular route.

How the Metro Diesel Premium Compares in SA

The gap between metro diesel and U91 has blown out to 97.8c per litre. For anyone driving a diesel ute or van, you're paying almost a dollar more per litre than a regular unleaded driver. That adds up to serious money on a 70-litre tank fill.

SA Metro Petrol Price Range and Brand Comparison

There's a 71.0c spread between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations this week. The cheapest metro station came in at 203.9 c/L, while the priciest reached 274.9 c/L. Shopping around clearly pays off.

Among brands with five or more metro stations, U-Go averaged the cheapest U91 at 219.0 c/L, followed by Mobil at 219.5 c/L and Liberty at 220.3 c/L. At the other end, BP averaged 229.6 c/L and Independent stations averaged 233.6 c/L. That's a gap of more than 14c between the cheapest and priciest brands, which is well worth paying attention to.

At 222.2 c/L, SA metro U91 sits just 0.2c below the national metro average of 222.4 c/L, making it a fairly typical week by national standards.

Last Sunday, the 12th of April, was the cheapest day of the week for metro U91, with prices averaging 219.5 c/L. Monday through Wednesday were the most expensive days, so timing your fill-up toward the weekend paid off.

SA Metro Petrol Price Forecast: 13–15 April

The metro U91 forecast is holding steady, with very little movement expected over the next few days. Prices are tipped to sit at 222.5 c/L on Monday, ease to 222.0 c/L Tuesday, and slip slightly to 221.8 c/L Wednesday. All three days are within a whisker of the current metro price of 222.2 c/L, so there's no strong reason to rush a fill-up or delay one. Confidence sits at 77% for Monday and Tuesday, dropping to 69% for Wednesday.

How to Save on Fuel in SA This Week

The 30-day U91 metro range runs from 203.9 c/L to 274.9 c/L, and current prices at 222.2 c/L are sitting comfortably in the lower half of that range. If you're on petrol, now is a reasonable time to fill up. If you're on diesel, prices have come off the mid-week highs but remain elevated, so compare stations carefully before pulling in.
