QLD Diesel Fuel Prices Keep Rising – What's Behind the Climb

There wasn't a single day of relief for diesel drivers this week. Metro prices rose each day without exception, from 244.3c/L on Monday through to 251.0c/L by Sunday. Rural diesel followed the same upward path, finishing the week at 256.1c/L, up +2.6c from last week's average.

The diesel premium over metro U91 is now sitting at 47.3c per litre, which is a significant gap. For anyone filling a 70-litre tank, that's over $33 more than an equivalent unleaded fill. If you have any flexibility in when you fill up, earlier in the week looked considerably cheaper than later.

Metro Station Price Range: How Much Shopping Around Can Save You

The spread between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations this week was extraordinary. The lowest-priced metro station, U-Go Rocklea, was selling U91 at 185.5c/L, while the most expensive, United Browns Slipway, was charging 251.0c/L. That's a 65.5c/L difference within the same city, which on a 50-litre fill comes to more than $32.

Brand averages tell a similar story. The cheapest brand across metro QLD was Atlas Fuel at 191.6c/L (4 stations), followed by Pearl Energy at 192.0c/L and U-Go at 192.2c/L. At the other end, BP averaged 203.7c/L across 89 stations and Caltex came in at 202.1c/L across 52. Choosing a cheaper brand over BP for a regular fill could save you well over $6 per tank.

Fuel Supply in QLD: Worth Keeping an Eye On

There are currently 152 station-fuels flagged as out-of-stock across Queensland, up from 132 last week. P95 has seen the sharpest rise, with 27 stations now without stock compared to 22 last week. LPG jumped from 15 to 19 stations out. It's not a crisis, but if you run on P95 or LPG, it's worth checking availability before you make a detour.

Cheapest Day to Fill Up Last Week

Last Monday, the 17th of August, was the cheapest day to fill up metro U91 all week at 198.8c/L. Prices drifted upward from there, reaching 201.7c/L by Saturday. Timing your fill earlier in the week would've saved you a few dollars.

QLD Metro Petrol Price Forecast: 24–26 August 2026

Metro U91 is expected to stay close to where it is now over the next few days. The forecast has prices edging up slightly to 200.6c/L on Monday (71% confidence), then easing back to 200.2c/L Tuesday and 200.1c/L Wednesday (59% confidence). Current metro U91 is 200.3c/L, so no dramatic swings are expected in the short term.

For context, QLD's metro U91 average is 0.7c below the national average of 201.0c/L. Queensland drivers are actually getting a slightly better deal than most of the country right now.

How to Save on Fuel in QLD This Week

The 30-day metro U91 range runs from a low of 167.9c/L to a high of 256.0c/L, and at 200.3c/L you're currently sitting in the middle of that range. Prices aren't screaming cheap, but they're not near the peak either.

Concrete actions worth taking: check brand averages before you fill, as the gap between budget brands and majors is well over 10c this week. If you drive diesel, filling earlier in the week has consistently been cheaper. And with nearly 1,000 rural diesel stations in the data, QLD country drivers are paying 6.4c/L more than their metro counterparts on average, so rural drivers especially benefit from comparing before committing.
