Queensland drivers got a second winter gift this week: prices fell across every single fuel type, and metro U91 has now dropped for five consecutive weeks. If you've been waiting for a good time to fill up, you haven't missed the boat yet.

Diesel Leads the Falls as QLD Petrol Prices Tumble

The standout mover this week was diesel, which shed 14.3c in metro areas to land at 180.0 c/L. That's a significant relief for tradies, fleet operators, and anyone hauling long distances. Rural diesel dropped 12.2c too, settling at 196.2 c/L, though regional drivers are still paying a hefty premium for the privilege of distance.

Metro U91 continued its steady slide, falling another 7c to 158.8 c/L. Daily data tells the full story: prices eased consistently from 161.8c on Monday the 22nd all the way down to 155.8c by Sunday the 28th, with no mid-week spikes or reversals. A clean, uninterrupted descent.

E10 is now the cheapest fuel on offer in Queensland metro areas at 156.0 c/L, down 7c on the week. If your car is compatible, that's a meaningful saving over U91.

P95 dropped 7c to 174.6 c/L metro, while P98 fell 6.8c to 182.9 c/L. Premium fuel owners are seeing relief too, just a touch less dramatic than the diesel swing.

How QLD Compares to the Rest of Australia

Queensland's metro U91 average of 158.8 c/L sits 1.5c above the national metro average of 157.3 c/L. South Australia is the cheapest state right now at 150.3 c/L, while ACT drivers are copping the worst of it at 166.8 c/L.

Where to Find the Cheapest Petrol in QLD This Week

The gap between QLD's cheapest and priciest metro stations this week was eye-watering. The cheapest metro station came in at 144.9 c/L (Independent Mega Fuels Rocklea), while the most expensive clocked 215.0 c/L (United Browns Slipway). That's a 70.1c spread on the same grade of fuel in the same city. Shopping around genuinely pays.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Atlas Fuel averaged 150.5c across its 4 metro stations, with U-Go close behind at 151.0c. At the other end, Shell averaged 163.3c and 7-Eleven 162.0c. Choosing wisely on brand alone could save you more than 12c per litre.

Last Sunday (28 June) was the cheapest day to fill up in metro QLD, with U91 averaging just 155.8 c/L. Worth keeping in mind as you watch the weekly cycle.

QLD Metro Petrol Price Forecast: Late June Into July

The next few days look promising for Brisbane and surrounds. Metro U91 is forecast to dip further to 153.7 c/L on Monday and 152.4 c/L on Tuesday, before jumping sharply to 177.5 c/L on Wednesday 1 July. Confidence on that Wednesday spike is 65%, so it's not guaranteed, but the pattern suggests early next week is the window to act. Current metro U91 sits at 158.8 c/L, so Monday and Tuesday could save you around 5 to 6c per litre compared to today.

One supply note worth flagging: the number of stations reporting stock outages ticked up to 141 station-fuels statewide, from 131 last week. P95 saw the sharpest jump, with 27 stations out of stock (up from 23). If P95 is your regular grade, it's worth checking availability before you drive across town.

What This Means for Your Hip Pocket

Fill up before Wednesday if you can. Monday or Tuesday metro U91 is forecast below 154 c/L, a solid 5c saving on today's average. Rural drivers are still paying 15.6c more per litre than metro on U91, which on a 60-litre tank adds up to nearly $9.40 extra every single fill. That's the real cost of distance in Queensland.

With U91 metro currently at 158.8 c/L and sitting well below the 30-day high of 239c, conditions are comfortable right now. Don't assume it lasts.
