Diesel drivers across Queensland caught a rare break this week. Metro diesel dropped 4.8c to 227.2 c/L, and rural diesel fell even further, down 7.5c to 238.0 c/L. Petrol, on the other hand, is quietly creeping up, with U91 metro rising for the second consecutive week to 185.8 c/L.

QLD Diesel and Petrol Price Movements This Week

Diesel led the moves this week, and the trend in the daily data tells a clean story. Metro diesel opened Monday at 229.2 c/L and fell steadily every single day, landing at 226.0 c/L by Sunday. Rural followed the same path, dropping from 240.2 c/L to 236.9 c/L across the week with no interruptions. That's an unusually consistent slide.

U91 moved the other way, climbing gradually through the week. Metro started at 185.5 c/L on Monday, nudged up to 186.1 c/L by Friday, then eased back to 186.0 c/L over the weekend. There were no sharp spikes, just a slow grind upward. With two consecutive weeks of rises now on the board, the direction of travel is worth watching.

P95 also ticked up 2.2c in metro to 202.2 c/L, mirroring U91's movement almost exactly. Rural P95 held steadier, rising just 0.3c to 205.3 c/L, meaning the city-country gap for premium petrol remains unusually tight at just 3.1c.

QLD Metro Station Price Range and Cheapest Brands

The spread between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations this week is extraordinary. The cheapest metro station sits at 165.5 c/L while the priciest is asking 252.0 c/L. That's an 86.5c gap, and it's a powerful reminder that where you fill up matters enormously.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Among the 17 brands with enough stations to compare, Atlas Fuel averaged 172.2 c/L and Pearl Energy 172.8 c/L, more than 16c cheaper than 7-Eleven (188.4 c/L) and BP (188.2 c/L). Shopping around isn't just worthwhile, it can be worth real money.

All three days sit above the current metro average of 185.8 c/L, suggesting the upward pressure isn't done yet.

On the national stage, QLD's metro U91 average of 185.8 c/L is 2.0c above the national metro average of 183.8 c/L, though it's still well below NSW's 187.6 c/L.

How to Save on Fuel Costs in QLD This Week

The current metro U91 price of 185.8 c/L sits well below the 30-day high of 259.9 c/L and closer to the low end of the range, so things could be much worse. For diesel drivers, this week's drop is genuine relief and the trend through the week was consistently down, so recent fills were well-timed.

If you're on petrol, the forecast suggests filling up sooner rather than later, prices look set to push toward 188.6 c/L by midweek. And with a gap of over 16c between the cheapest and priciest brands in metro QLD, checking prices before you pull in is genuinely worth the few seconds it takes.
