Diesel is the story this week. Queensland metro diesel dropped 7.1c to 242.5c/L, one of the sharpest single-week falls we've seen in recent months. If you drive a diesel vehicle, that's real money back in your pocket.

QLD Diesel and Petrol Price Movements This Week

Diesel's slide was consistent right through the week, starting at 247.1c/L metro on Monday 4 May and dropping steadily to 238.0c/L by Sunday. That's a 9.1c intra-week fall from top to bottom, and rural diesel followed almost in lockstep, finishing the week at 254.1c/L. Drivers who held off filling up mid-week were rewarded.

U91 metro told a quieter story. Prices hovered in a tight band, dipping to 180.3c/L on Tuesday before creeping back up to 182.0c/L on Saturday. The weekly average of 181.1c/L represents a modest 0.4c fall, but the bigger picture is more meaningful: U91 metro has now fallen for five consecutive weeks. That sustained downward pressure puts the current price close to the 163.5c/L 30-day low, and well clear of the 315.9c/L 30-day high. P95 edged up just 0.2c to 197.4c/L metro, essentially flat.

How QLD Petrol Prices Compare Nationally

Queensland metro U91 is sitting at 181.1c/L, just 0.2c below the national metro average of 181.3c/L. South Australia remains the cheapest state at 179.0c/L, while ACT drivers are paying the most at 182.6c/L. QLD is comfortably in the middle of the pack.

Cheapest and Priciest Fuel Stations in QLD Metro

Shopping around makes an enormous difference in Queensland right now. The cheapest metro station is tracking at 163.5c/L and the priciest at 252.0c/L, a gap of 88.5c/L. Fill up a 60-litre tank at the cheaper end and you're saving over $53 compared to the most expensive option.

Brand averages tell a similar story. U-Go leads on price at an average of 169.6c/L across 8 stations, followed by Pearl Energy at 172.5c/L and Atlas Fuel at 174.2c/L. At the other end, Shell averages 189.0c/L and Pacific Petroleum 188.9c/L. That's nearly a 20c/L gap between the cheapest and priciest brands, purely for the same U91 fuel.

Last Week's Cheapest Day to Fill Up

Last Tuesday, 5 May, was the cheapest day to fill up in QLD metro, with U91 averaging 180.3c/L. That mid-week dip is a pattern worth keeping in mind for future fill-ups.

QLD Metro U91 Petrol Price Forecast

The outlook for metro U91 is stable. The Petrol Smart forecast has prices sitting at 180.4c/L on Monday 11 May and Tuesday 12 May, then easing fractionally to 180.3c/L on Wednesday 13 May. All three days are expected to come in slightly below the current metro average of 181.1c/L, which is encouraging for drivers planning a fill-up early in the week.

How to Save on Fuel in QLD This Week

With a nearly 20c/L spread between the cheapest and priciest metro brands, choosing where you fill up matters far more than waiting for prices to move. Seek out U-Go, Pearl Energy, or Atlas Fuel stations if they're on your route. Diesel drivers have had a great week already, but with prices still falling daily through last week, it's worth checking live prices before you pull in. The diesel premium over U91 metro is currently 61.4c/L, so if your vehicle runs on either, the U91 choice is clear.

One minor supply note: LPG availability has tightened this week, with 21 stations currently out of stock, up from 17 last week. If you run LPG, check ahead before making a dedicated trip.
