Diesel is the story of the week in NSW. Metro diesel jumped 12.7c in a single week to 199.3c/L, and it hasn't let up, climbing every single day from 189.7c on Monday to 208.5c by Sunday. If you drive a diesel vehicle, that's a painful hit that came fast.

What's Moving NSW Petrol Prices This Week

Every fuel type rose this week, but diesel stands apart. That 12.7c metro surge dwarfs the roughly 4.5 to 4.7c gains seen across the petrol grades. There were no mid-week dips or reversals to speak of, either. U91, E10, P95, and P98 all climbed steadily and continuously from Monday through to Sunday, suggesting sustained upward pressure rather than a short-term spike.

U91 metro has now risen for three consecutive weeks, with the weekly average sitting at 170.4c/L. That's still well within the 30-day range of 136.7c to 211.9c, so it's not at an extreme, but the direction of travel is clearly upward.

E10 remains the cheapest option for compatible cars at 168.4c metro and 171.9c rural, a saving of 2c per litre over U91. P95 and P98 continued their own steady climbs, with P98 crossing the 200c mark in rural NSW at 200.3c/L.

Rural drivers are paying a consistent premium this week. That 6.9c gap between rural and metro U91 means someone filling a 60-litre tank outside the city is spending roughly $4 more per fill than a Sydney driver, before they've even considered the distance they drove to get there.

Metro Station Price Range and Brand Averages in NSW

The spread between the cheapest and priciest metro stations this week is striking. Metro Fuel Metro Petroleum Earlwood is averaging 147.9c/L for U91, while BP Redfern sits at 211.9c/L. That's a 64c gap on the same fuel grade in the same city.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Arko Energy is the cheapest brand at 159.9c across 3 stations, followed by U-Go at 161c and Speedway at 163c. At the other end, BP averages 175.3c and EG Ampol 175.5c across their large networks. Choosing the right brand can save you more than 15c per litre on U91.

Last Week's Best Day to Fill Up in NSW

Last Monday, 13 July, was the cheapest day to fill up in metro NSW, with U91 averaging 167.4c/L. Prices climbed every day after that, reaching 173.7c by Sunday. If you held off last week, you paid more.

NSW Metro Petrol Price Forecast for the Coming Days

The U91 metro forecast points to continued rises. Prices are tipped to reach 174.5c on Monday (66% confidence), 175.1c on Tuesday (60% confidence), and 175.5c on Wednesday (55% confidence). That's up to 5.1c above the current weekly average of 170.4c, and confidence is reasonable for the near term.

Worth keeping in mind: NSW metro U91 is currently sitting 1.6c below the national metro average of 172c/L, so while prices feel high, NSW drivers are actually faring slightly better than most of the country right now.
