Prices climbed across every fuel type in NSW this week, and for U91 drivers, it's the second consecutive week of rises. Metro U91 hit 165.8 c/L, up 6.5c from last week, while diesel pushed even harder, gaining 5.1c in metro areas to reach 186.5 c/L.

Biggest Movers in NSW Petrol Prices This Week

P95 took the largest single-week jump in metro areas, surging 7.0c to 183.3 c/L. That's a meaningful hit if you're running a car that recommends premium.

U91 and E10 both rose 6.5c in metro, moving in near-perfect lockstep as they typically do. The two consecutive weeks of U91 metro increases are worth watching, though the current price of 165.8 c/L still sits comfortably within the lower half of its 30-day range of 136.7c to 201.9c.

Diesel was the standout story mid-week. Metro diesel was relatively contained early on, sitting at 185.2c on Monday, but it accelerated sharply from Thursday onward, reaching 188.9c by Saturday. Rural diesel followed a similar path, finishing the week at 195.0c on Saturday.

P95 metro prices were remarkably stable through the middle of the week, barely shifting between Monday and Friday before ticking up to 183.7c on Saturday.

E10 actually drifted slightly lower through Wednesday to Friday in both metro and rural areas before nudging back up on Saturday. Rural E10 dropped from 169.9c on Monday all the way to 168.3c by Friday, so the week ended closer to where it began out in the regions.

P98 metro showed a similar pattern, with a gentle mid-week softening before recovering on Saturday to 191.2c.

How Much the Cheapest and Priciest NSW Stations Differ

The spread across metro stations is enormous this week. The cheapest metro station came in at 147.9 c/L while the most expensive was charging 201.9 c/L, a gap of 54.0c per litre. On a 50-litre fill, that's a $27 difference depending on where you stop.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Among the 20 brands with three or more metro stations, Arko Energy averaged just 156.6c across its three stations, while BP averaged 170.7c across 90. That's a 14.1c gap, which adds up fast if you're filling up weekly.

Where NSW Sits Against Other States

NSW metro U91 at 165.8 c/L is currently 2.7c below the national metro average of 168.5 c/L, making it one of the more affordable states to fill up right now. Only SA is cheaper nationally at 163.4 c/L.

Last Monday, 6 July, was the cheapest day to fill up metro U91, with an average of 165.6 c/L. Prices crept up slightly through the week before a small jump on Saturday, so early in the week remained the sweet spot.

The metro U91 forecast points to a modest easing from the current 165.8 c/L. Sunday is tipped at 165.0 c/L (66% confidence), Monday at 165.1 c/L (60% confidence), and Tuesday at 165.3 c/L (55% confidence). If the forecast holds, filling up over the next day or two in metro areas could save you a small but worthwhile amount.
