P98 led the rises with a +4.5c jump to 184.5 c/L metro, while E10 matched it on percentage terms with +4.4c to reach 157.3 c/L. That makes E10 the cheapest fuel in the state this week, and worth considering if your car is compatible.

The daily data tells a clear story. Metro U91 opened Monday at 152.6 c/L and barely paused for breath, climbing every single day to hit 164.6 c/L by Saturday. There was no mid-week dip to catch, no reprieve. Rural drivers saw the same trajectory, peaking at 174.1 c/L on Friday and Saturday.

Diesel followed an almost identical path through the week, though it did manage a slight pull-back on Sunday: metro diesel touched 187.2 c/L on Friday before easing to 185.0 c/L on Saturday. Rural diesel bucked the broader trend and was actually down 0.4c for the week overall.

P95 and P98 both ran hotter as the week wore on, with P95 metro reaching 182.2 c/L by Saturday and P98 closing at 189.9 c/L.

It's also worth flagging the diesel premium over U91: at 22.1c per litre, operators of utes, vans, and trucks are carrying a noticeably heavier cost burden than regular petrol drivers.

The gap between the cheapest and most expensive metro station this week is striking. TEMCO Petroleum was recording 137.7 c/L while BP Loftus sat at 189.9 c/L, a spread of 52.2c. On a 50-litre tank, that's a $26 difference between two fills in the same city.

Brand averages reinforce the message. Among metro U91 retailers with three or more stations, Arko Energy averaged 153.9c, Prime came in at 154.2c, and Budget sat at 155.1c. BP averaged 164.9c and Caltex 165.8c. That's a gap of nearly 12c per litre between the cheapest and priciest brands, and it adds up fast.

Last Monday (29 June) was the cheapest day to fill up, with metro U91 sitting at just 152.6 c/L. Every day after that cost more. Prices don't always move in one direction all week, but this week they did, and waiting cost drivers money.

The forecast for metro U91 points to further modest increases. Monday 6 July is projected at 164.7 c/L (66% confidence), Tuesday at 164.9 c/L (60% confidence), and Wednesday 8 July at 165.2 c/L (55% confidence). That's around 5.5c above where the current weekly average sits.

NSW metro U91 at 159.2 c/L is actually 2.4c below the national metro average of 161.6 c/L, which is some consolation. But with prices heading north, timing and station choice matter more than ever. E10 at 157.3 c/L metro is your cheapest option if your vehicle supports it. Hunting down a Budget or Arko Energy site over a BP or Caltex could save you close to 12c per litre.
