Diesel led the charge down, shedding 14.4c in metro areas to reach 204.7 c/L. That's a significant shift for tradies and fleet operators who've been grinding through months of elevated costs.

E10 was the standout value play across the week, finishing at 169.1 c/L metro, making it the cheapest fuel type available. If your car is compatible, that's a meaningful saving over U91.

U91 fell steadily every single day from 177.3c on Monday to 167.8c by Saturday, without a single reversal. That kind of clean, consistent decline is relatively unusual and signals genuine downward pressure rather than just a short-term dip.

P95 and P98 tracked the same trajectory, both down around 11.5c metro. Rural drivers did see falls too, but at roughly half the rate of metro areas, which means the gap between city and country pricing actually widened slightly this week.

Diesel's daily trend mirrored U91's steady slide, dropping from 211c on Monday to 200.9c by Saturday before ticking barely a fraction higher on Sunday.

For regional drivers, a fall of 5.8c on U91 to 181.8 c/L is still welcome, but it's roughly half what Sydney motorists received. That 10.4c gap between metro and rural U91 is real money if you're filling a large tank in a country town every week.

The outlook for metro Sydney looks even better from here. Petrol Smart's forecast puts metro U91 at 166.4 c/L on Monday, 164.9 c/L on Tuesday, and 163.2 c/L on Wednesday. That's potentially another 8.2c drop from the current metro average of 171.4 c/L, though confidence dips to 65% by Wednesday. If you can hold off a few days, it may well be worth it.

Nationally, NSW is sitting 0.6c below the metro average of 172 c/L, which puts the state in a reasonably comfortable position compared to ACT drivers paying 179 c/L.

What This Means for Your Hip Pocket

If you're on E10, filling a 60-litre tank at 169.1 c/L costs around $101.46 metro this week. Wait until Wednesday if the forecast holds and you could be looking closer to $97.92. That's a saving worth planning around.

The brand gap is just as important. Checking a few nearby stations before committing to a fill could shave over $7 off a single visit compared to the priciest operators in the city.
