NSW drivers got a welcome breather this week. Every fuel type fell in price, with diesel leading the charge down and metro U91 sliding steadily all week long without a single reversal.

Biggest Movers in NSW Petrol Prices This Week

Diesel was the standout, dropping 7.1c in metro areas to a weekly average of 219.2 c/L. That's a meaningful saving if you're running a ute or van regularly. Rural diesel also fell a solid 5.3c to 228.7 c/L, though the gap between metro and rural remains a painful 9.5c, meaning country drivers are still paying significantly more to keep their vehicles moving.

Metro U91 fell 4.7c to 182.9 c/L and, notably, the daily trend was one of consistent decline. Prices dropped every single day from 186.7c on Monday to 178.7c by Sunday, with no mid-week spike to dodge. Rural U91 followed a similar path but eased more gently, finishing the week at 186.2c on Saturday and Sunday. That 4.9c gap means metro drivers saved noticeably compared to those outside the city.

E10 was the cheapest fuel on offer across NSW this week at 180.8 c/L metro, and it too fell steadily from 184.8c on Monday down to 176.5c by Sunday. If your car runs on E10, this was a good week to top up late.

P95 cracked through the 200c barrier by the end of the week, closing Sunday at 196.0c metro after starting at 203.8c on Monday. P98 followed a near-identical pattern, easing from 211.3c to 203.3c across the seven days.

NSW vs the Rest of Australia

NSW metro U91 at 182.9 c/L sits 2c above the national metro average of 180.9 c/L, so we're not the cheapest state. That title goes to South Australia at 173.3 c/L, while Victoria tops the list at 184.6 c/L.

The spread between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations this week tells the real story. The cheapest recorded metro price was 158.5 c/L at Independent Pearl Energy Colyton, while the most expensive was 209.9 c/L at Independent Brooklyn Central. That's a 51.4c difference for the same litre of fuel in the same city.

Brand averages show a similar pattern. Among chains with three or more stations, Arko Energy averaged 175.1c, U-Go came in at 175.8c, and ASTRON at 176.8c. At the other end, 7-Eleven averaged 187.1c across 140 stations and Mobil averaged 186.6c. Choosing the right brand over the wrong one could save you more than 12c per litre on a regular fill.

The downward trend looks set to continue into next week. Metro U91 is forecast at 177.7 c/L on Monday (78% confidence), easing further to 176.4 c/L Tuesday (71% confidence), and 174.8 c/L by Wednesday (65% confidence). All three days sit below the current weekly average of 182.9 c/L, so metro drivers who aren't urgently low may find it worth holding off a day or two.
