Diesel Leads the Falls in NSW This Week

The diesel story is the clear standout. Metro prices slid consistently every single day of the week, from 228.7c/L on Monday the 18th all the way down to 224.8c/L by Saturday the 24th. Rural diesel followed the same trajectory, falling from 235.9c/L to 232.9c/L over the same period. That's a welcome relief for tradies and freight operators who've been wearing elevated diesel costs for months.

U91 metro, by contrast, is moving in the opposite direction. This is now the third consecutive week of rises, with prices creeping up another 1.1c to 187.6c/L. The daily data shows a slow, steady drift rather than any dramatic spike, which suggests the upward pressure is structural rather than a one-off blip. Rural U91 at 188.8c/L is actually a touch more expensive than metro this week.

How NSW Petrol Prices Compare to the Rest of Australia

NSW is the most expensive state for metro U91 right now, sitting 3.8c above the national metro average of 183.8c/L. South Australia is the cheapest state at 176.8c/L, meaning NSW drivers are paying roughly 10.8c/L more than their SA counterparts. Over a 50-litre tank, that's more than $5 every time you fill up.

What the Metro Price Range Tells NSW Drivers

Here's where shopping around really pays off. The cheapest metro station this week was U-Go Rozelle (Self-Serve) at 164.5c/L, while the most expensive was BP Woodpark Road at 221.9c/L. That's a staggering 57.4c/L gap between the two, or nearly $29 on a 50-litre tank.

Brand averages tell a similar story. Among the 20 brands with three or more metro stations, ASTRON averaged just 179.6c/L, followed by Arko Energy at 180.5c and Enhance at 181.5c. At the other end, BP averaged 190.6c/L and EG Ampol 190.5c/L. That's more than an 11c/L difference between the cheapest and priciest brands, purely based on where you choose to stop.

NSW Metro Petrol Price Forecast: Where U91 Is Heading

The short-term outlook for metro U91 isn't particularly encouraging. Prices are forecast to climb from the current 187.6c/L to 188.3c/L on Monday (78% confidence), 189.5c/L on Tuesday (71% confidence), and 190.8c/L by Wednesday (65% confidence). That's a potential rise of 3.2c over just three days, so if your tank is getting low, sooner is better.
