NSW Fuel Prices โ Week of 4 May 2026
Diesel drivers in NSW have had the best week of the two, with metro prices falling 7.3c to land at 240 c/L, one of the more meaningful drops we've seen in a while. Meanwhile, metro U91 crept up slightly, so if you're running on unleaded, there's a bit more nuance to unpack.

Diesel Leads the NSW Fuel Price Falls This Week
Diesel is the clear standout. Metro prices fell from 244.6 c/L on Monday all the way to 236.8 c/L by Saturday, a clean and consistent slide across every single day of the week. Rural diesel followed the same pattern, dropping from 254.5 c/L to 246.7 c/L over the same stretch. That's a genuine saving for tradespeople, freight operators, and anyone else running a diesel vehicle.

Prices dipped to 180.4 c/L on Tuesday before climbing steadily to 184.1 c/L by Saturday, then easing just slightly to 183.9 c/L on Sunday. Rural U91 was more stable, hovering in a narrow band between 190.4 c/L and 191.6 c/L all week. For rural drivers, that's actually a modest improvement of 1.7c on last week's average.
P95 nudged up 1.4c in metro areas to 199.6 c/L while rural P95 edged down 1.4c to 205 c/L. If you're running premium, the rural discount this week is a mild silver lining.
How Much Metro NSW Prices Vary by Brand and Station
There's a massive spread in what Sydney-area drivers are actually paying, and this is where shopping around really pays off. The cheapest metro station this week came in at 157.9 c/L (Metro Fuel Metro Greenacre), while the priciest hit 219.9 c/L (Ampol Foodary Coogee). That's a 62c gap between the best and worst deal in the metro area.
Looking at brand averages across 21 brands with at least three stations, U-Go averaged 170.1c across seven metro stations, with Arko Energy close behind at 171.4c. At the other end, Ampol Foodary averaged 188.5c across 82 metro stations, and Mobil averaged 188.1c. That's roughly an 18c per litre difference between the cheapest and priciest brands, which adds up fast on a 60-litre fill.
Last Week's Cheapest Day to Fill Up in NSW
Last Tuesday (5 May) was the cheapest metro day of the week for U91, with prices averaging 180.4 c/L. Given that prices climbed from there through to Saturday, anyone who filled up mid-week got the better deal.

Making the Most of Fuel Prices in NSW Right Now
With metro U91 forecast to hold near 182.7 c/L and no big drop on the horizon, there's no strong reason to wait before filling up. What matters more right now is where you fill up. The gap between the cheapest and priciest metro stations is more than 60c per litre, so choosing your station carefully is genuinely more valuable than trying to time the market. Diesel drivers should fill up soon while prices are on their current downward run, as that slide may not last.
