Prices fell hard across the board in NSW this week, and if you filled up over the weekend you'll have noticed it. Metro U91 dropped 20.4c to land at 189.9 c/L, making this the third consecutive week of falls. That's a meaningful run of relief for drivers who've been watching prices creep up over summer.

Biggest Movers in NSW Petrol Prices This Week

Diesel was the standout. Metro diesel crashed 36.5c to 267.9 c/L, and rural dropped 33.1c to 281.1 c/L. That's a significant break for tradespeople and anyone running a diesel vehicle. The gap between metro diesel and U91 still sits at a hefty 78c, so diesel drivers aren't out of the woods yet, but the direction is encouraging.

U91 dropped steadily every single day of the week, starting at 199.9c on Monday and closing Sunday at 183.8c metro. No mid-week spikes, no reversals, just a clean slide downward all seven days. Rural followed the same pattern, falling from 210.4c to 195.3c over the same period.

P95 and P98 tracked similarly, both shedding around 20c through the week.

The Gap Between Metro and Rural NSW Drivers

A driver filling a 60L tank in regional NSW on U91 is paying roughly $6.54 more than someone doing the same fill in the city. That's not a rounding error, that's a real cost every single week. The rural drop of 18.7c is welcome, but the gap to metro remains wide at 10.9c.

On brand averages, ASTRON came in cheapest at 181.5c and Arko Energy at 181.6c, while Mobil averaged 200.2c — a gap of nearly 19c per litre between the cheapest and priciest brands. On a 60L fill, choosing the right brand could save you over $11.

Last Sunday, 26 April, was the cheapest day of the week, with metro U91 averaging 183.8 c/L. That's 16.1c lower than Monday's opening average of 199.9c, which shows how much timing matters even within a single week.

The downward run looks set to continue. Metro U91 is forecast to fall to 180.4 c/L tomorrow (Monday 27 April, 78% confidence), then to 176.5 c/L on Tuesday (71% confidence), and potentially as low as 172.3 c/L by Wednesday (65% confidence). Compared to the current metro average of 189.9 c/L, that's a potential saving of more than 17c by mid-week if the forecast holds.

NSW sits 0.6c above the national metro U91 average of 189.3 c/L, so prices here are close to the middle of the pack nationally. The three-week downward trend is real, and the forecast suggests there's more to come. If you can wait until Tuesday or Wednesday to fill up, the data suggests you'll pay noticeably less. And with an 18c+ difference between the cheapest and priciest brands in metro areas, checking prices before you pull in is genuinely worth a few seconds of your time.
