Biggest Movers in NSW Petrol Prices This Week

Diesel dominated the bad news. Metro prices spiked hard on Wednesday 8 April, reaching 323.8c/L before gradually pulling back to close the week at 318.8c/L. That mid-week jump of more than 14 cents from Monday's open will have hit transport operators and tradies particularly hard.

Across the petrol grades, the picture was far more encouraging. U91 dropped steadily all week, sliding from 225.7c/L on Monday to 218.7c/L by Sunday. No sharp reversals, no mid-week spikes — just a clean, consistent slide downward.

E10 was the cheapest fuel available this week at 219.9c/L metro, making it the go-to option for drivers whose cars can run it. P95 and P98 both shed around 6c, which is solid movement for premium grades.

How NSW Metro Prices Compare Across Brands

There's a meaningful gap between the cheapest and priciest brands for metro U91 this week. ASTRON averaged just 217.5c/L across its stations, followed closely by Arko Energy at 217.6c/L and U-Go at 218.6c/L. At the other end, Caltex averaged 227.7c/L and Mobil came in at 226.1c/L. That's a 10c spread between the cheapest and priciest brands, which adds up to a couple of dollars every time you fill a standard tank.

The range across individual stations was even wider. The cheapest metro station hit 199.7c/L, while the most expensive sat at 284.9c/L. Shopping around isn't just worth it this week, it's essential.

Which Day Was Cheapest to Fill Up Last Week

Last Sunday (12 April) was the cheapest day to fill up, with metro U91 averaging 218.7c/L. If you managed to top up over the weekend, you picked the best possible moment. Rural drivers had a similar experience, with Sunday averaging 227.4c/L — the week's low point for regional NSW too.

NSW Metro U91 Petrol Price Forecast: 13–15 April

Looking ahead for metro NSW, prices are expected to stay relatively flat in the near term. The forecast puts U91 metro at 223.1c/L on Monday (77% confidence), easing to 222.2c/L on Tuesday (77% confidence), then nudging back up to 223.1c/L on Wednesday (69% confidence). That puts forecast prices hovering just above the current metro average of 222.5c/L, so no dramatic moves are expected in the immediate term.

On the national stage, NSW metro U91 sits at 222.5c/L, just 0.1c above the national metro average of 222.4c/L — essentially middle of the pack. Western Australia remains the cheapest state at 220.4c/L.

What This Means for Your Wallet This Week

If you drive a petrol car, this is a decent week to fill up. U91 at 222.5c/L metro is sitting well below its 30-day high of 299.9c/L, and the cheapest brands are averaging closer to 217.5c/L. Diesel drivers don't have the same luxury — at 318.7c/L metro, that 96.2c premium over U91 is significant and worth factoring into running costs.
