Australia Fuel Prices Are Up Across the Board This Week

It was a rough week at the register for most Australian drivers. Premium fuels led the charge upward, with P98 jumping 5.7 cents per litre in metro areas and E10 rising 5.4 cents nationally — the sharpest moves in several weeks. Only rural diesel bucked the trend, edging down 1.9 cents to offer a rare bit of relief for regional motorists.

Unleaded U91 rose 4.3 cents in metro areas to 161.6 c/L, with rural drivers paying a significant 15-cent premium at 176.7 c/L. The gap between city and country remains stubbornly wide.

E10 was the standout budget option nationally at 154.4 c/L metro, but the 5.4-cent weekly rise will sting drivers who rely on it to keep costs down. Rural E10 climbed 3.6 cents to 160.8 c/L.

P95 added 4.6 cents metro to sit at 178.1 c/L, with rural averages at 188.0 c/L. Drivers choosing mid-grade are paying noticeably more than a fortnight ago.

P98 had the biggest single-week jump of any fuel, up 5.7 cents in metro areas to 187.1 c/L. Rural P98 reached 197.0 c/L — just shy of the two-dollar mark. If you're running a performance or European vehicle that demands premium fuel, this week hurt.

Diesel was the relative calm in an otherwise stormy week. Metro diesel crept up just 1.7 cents to 183.5 c/L, while rural diesel actually fell 1.9 cents to 196.5 c/L — welcome news for tradies and freight operators doing regional runs.

South Australia takes the crown as the cheapest state for metro U91 this week at 158.2 c/L, though the 7.9-cent weekly rise there is among the steepest in the country. SA's P95 also surged 8.0 cents, so the savings are narrowing fast. NSW comes in second at 159.2 c/L, followed closely by Victoria at 160.0 c/L — which, notably, recorded the softest metro rise of just 1.5 cents.

Queensland sits at 161.2 c/L metro and Western Australia at 161.5 c/L, with WA's rural figure a punishing 191.6 c/L — the highest rural U91 average of any state this week. The ACT remains the most expensive jurisdiction at 169.5 c/L metro, though its diesel was the only metro diesel to fall, down 1.7 cents to 193.4 c/L.

On the supply side, there are 451 station-fuel combinations currently showing as out-of-stock nationally, down from 480 last week — a modest improvement. LPG saw the sharpest drop in outages, falling from 124 to 108 affected stations. Victoria accounts for the largest share of dry pumps with 232, followed by Queensland at 120 and South Australia at 99. Worth keeping an eye on if you're in those states and relying on a specific fuel type.

What This Week's Australia Fuel Prices Mean for Drivers

If your vehicle can run E10, it remains the cheapest option nationally at 154.4 c/L metro — even after this week's rise. Filling up mid-week rather than on weekends can also help in cycle-driven markets like Melbourne and Adelaide. Rural drivers should note that diesel pricing has softened slightly, so those long highway runs are marginally less painful than last week.
