Canberra drivers caught a genuine break this week. Every single fuel type tracked in the ACT dropped in price, with diesel leading the charge down 8.1c to 195.1 c/L metro. U91 has now fallen for five consecutive weeks, which means the territory's most popular fuel is sitting noticeably below where it was a month ago.

Biggest Movers in ACT Petrol Prices This Week

Diesel's 8.1c fall is the standout drop. It opened the week at 199.6 c/L on Monday and slid steadily, but the most dramatic move came on Sunday 28 June when it tumbled from 193.5 c/L to 185.9 c/L overnight. That's a single-day drop of nearly 7.6c, which is unusual and worth watching to see if it holds.

P95 also had a solid week, dropping 5.1c to 184.4 c/L. The daily trend was consistent and gradual, falling from 187.5 c/L on Monday to 181.4 c/L by Sunday, with no sharp reversals.

U91's five-week losing streak continued, finishing the week at a weekly average of 166.8 c/L after daily prices eased from 169.6 c/L on Monday down to 164.2 c/L by Sunday. E10 tracked closely alongside it, averaging 164.7 c/L and making it the cheapest fuel type available in the ACT this week.

P98 dropped 4.5c to 192.4 c/L, which is actually cheaper than the diesel average this week, a worth a second glance for anyone running a premium petrol vehicle.

Even with the recent falls, Canberra remains the most expensive capital in the country for U91, sitting 9.5c above the national metro average of 157.3 c/L, with SA the cheapest state at 150.3 c/L.

Cheapest and Priciest ACT Stations This Week

The spread between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations this week is a striking 38.0c per litre. Metro Fuel averaged just 163.9 c/L across its 8 ACT stations, while BP came in as the priciest tracked brand at 168.6 c/L across 3 stations. That 4.7c gap isn't enormous, but on a 60-litre fill it adds up to nearly three dollars. Ampol Foodary averaged 165.2 c/L and Reddy Express came in at 166.1 c/L, both reasonable middle-ground options.

At the individual station level, the cheapest metro price recorded was 151.9 c/L and the priciest was 189.9 c/L. Shopping around genuinely matters in Canberra.

Last Sunday, 28 June, was the cheapest day to fill up, with metro U91 hitting 164.2 c/L. That daily low is well below the weekly average, which tells you prices were heavier earlier in the week and eased as the days went on.

ACT Metro Petrol Price Forecast: Late June into July

The next couple of days look encouraging for metro drivers. The forecast has U91 metro dropping to 163.2 c/L on Monday 29 June (78% confidence) and easing again to 162.4 c/L on Tuesday 30 June (71% confidence). That's meaningfully below the current weekly average of 166.8 c/L. Wednesday 1 July, however, is forecast to spike hard to 187.6 c/L (65% confidence), which would likely signal the start of a new price cycle. If you can fill up Monday or Tuesday, it's worth doing.
