Canberra drivers have now watched U91 petrol fall for five consecutive weeks, and this week was no different. Metro U91 eased another cent to 182.6 c/L, a quiet but welcome slide that has built up real savings over the past month.

Biggest Movers in ACT Petrol Prices This Week

Diesel was the standout mover. It fell 3.7c to 263.0 c/L for the week, and the day-by-day picture tells an even more interesting story. Prices opened at 266.5c on Monday and ground steadily lower through Wednesday, then dipped sharply to 261.1c by Thursday. There was a brief uptick on Friday before another retreat to a weekly low of 260.2c on Saturday. Diesel drivers who watched the trend and filled up Saturday saved noticeably compared to those who topped up at the start of the week.

P95 moved the other way, creeping up 1.2c to 202.0 c/L. Not a huge jump, but worth keeping in mind if premium petrol is your regular grade.

On U91, the intra-week pattern was less encouraging than the weekly average suggests. Prices actually climbed from 181.2c on Tuesday to 184.6c by Sunday, meaning the headline weekly average of 182.6c masks a rising trend as the week progressed.

ACT Metro Price Range: How Much You Can Save by Shopping Around

The gap between the cheapest and priciest metro stations this week was a striking 38c per litre. The lowest-priced metro station came in at 161.9 c/L, while the most expensive reached 199.9 c/L. On a 50-litre fill, that difference is roughly $19 depending purely on which station you choose.

Brand averages reinforce this. Among the seven brands with enough stations to compare, 7-Eleven averaged 178.0c across 13 stations and Metro Fuel averaged 179.4c across 8 stations, while Ampol Foodary averaged 186.3c across 10 stations and EG Ampol averaged 184.6c across 12 stations. That's more than an 8c gap between the cheapest and priciest brands, which adds up fast if you're filling up weekly.

Last Tuesday (5 May) was the cheapest day to fill up, with metro U91 averaging just 181.2c. By Sunday it had climbed to 184.6c, a 3.4c difference in the space of five days.

ACT Metro Petrol Price Forecast for the Coming Days

The short-term forecast for ACT metro U91 is a modest drift upward from the current 182.6 c/L. The model expects 183.6c on Monday (78% confidence), easing slightly to 183.3c on Tuesday (71% confidence) and 183.1c by Wednesday (65% confidence). None of these moves are dramatic, but if you're due for a fill, sooner rather than later looks marginally cheaper.

ACT currently sits as the most expensive state in the country for metro U91, at 182.6c versus the national average of 181.3c and well above the cheapest state, SA, at 179.0c.

The 30-day range for metro U91 has swung between 161.9c and 229.9c, which means the current 182.6c sits comfortably in the lower third of that range. You're not at rock bottom, but you're a long way from the ugly end.
