Biggest Movers in ACT Petrol Prices This Week

P95 led the falls with a 9.7c drop to 200.8 c/L, closely followed by U91 shedding 9.6c to land at 183.6 c/L. Even P98 and E10 moved nearly in lockstep, each falling 9.5c to 209.1 c/L and 181.4 c/L respectively.

The daily trend for U91 tells a clean story. Prices opened at 187.8 c/L on Monday 27 April and fell steadily every single day, finishing the week at 181.2 c/L by Sunday 3 May. Not a bump or reversal in sight, which is relatively unusual and genuinely good news for anyone who could hold off filling up until the weekend.

Diesel followed a slightly different path. It fell from 268.1 c/L on Monday to a mid-week low of 265.8 c/L on Thursday, then crept back up over the final three days to close at 266.8 c/L. Tradies and fleet drivers should keep that mid-week dip in mind going forward.

E10 and P98 both tracked the same steady downward path as U91 throughout the week, with no notable reversals.

There's a striking 38 cent gap between the cheapest and most expensive metro stations this week. Metro Petroleum Fyshwick was offering U91 at just 171.9 c/L, while the priciest option in the metro area reached 209.9 c/L at Ampol Fyshwick. Choosing the right station genuinely matters here.

On the brand side, the spread is wide enough to act on. Coles Express averaged 180.7 c/L across 15 stations, making it the cheapest major brand this week. BP averaged 186.7 c/L across 3 stations, a 6 cent gap that adds up quickly if you're filling a 60-litre tank.

Last Sunday, 3 May, was the cheapest day to fill up last week, with U91 metro sitting at 181.2 c/L. If that pattern continues, it's worth keeping in mind for next weekend.

U91 metro is currently at 183.6 c/L and the forecast has it easing to 180.5 c/L on Monday (78% confidence), 179.6 c/L on Tuesday (71% confidence), and 178.8 c/L by Wednesday (65% confidence). That's a potential further drop of nearly 5 cents from where prices sit right now.

One point of context worth keeping in mind: ACT's U91 metro average of 183.6 c/L currently sits 2.9 cents above the national metro average of 180.7 c/L, with South Australia the cheapest state at 175.1 c/L.

How to Save on Fuel in ACT This Week

With prices still near the lower end of the 30-day range (the monthly low was 171.9 c/L, the high was 259.9 c/L), this is a reasonable week to fill up rather than wait. If you can stretch to early next week, the forecast suggests a little more savings are coming.
