ACT Fuel Prices – Week of 6 April 2026

Diesel drivers in the ACT are copping a rough week. While unleaded prices eased quietly through the back half of the week, diesel jumped 11.8c to a metro average of 318.4 c/L, making it the standout mover in an otherwise improving picture for petrol users.

Biggest Movers in ACT Petrol Prices This Week

Diesel told a very different story to the rest of the bowser range. It opened the week at 308.8 c/L on Monday, climbed sharply to 324.7 c/L by Wednesday, peaked at 325.7 c/L on Thursday, then pulled back over the weekend to 317.8 c/L by Saturday. That mid-week spike is worth keeping in mind if you drive a diesel vehicle and have any flexibility over when you fill up.

Unleaded grades all tracked in a much friendlier direction. U91 held steady around 224.3–224.4 c/L early in the week, then fell consistently from Thursday onwards, finishing Saturday at 218.4 c/L. E10 followed the same pattern, dropping from 222.1 c/L on Monday to 216.1 c/L by Saturday.

P95 and P98 moved in step with the broader unleaded trend, falling through the second half of the week. P95 closed Saturday at 235.1 c/L, down from 241.0 c/L on Monday. P98 finished at 243.5 c/L, having barely budged on Tuesday and Wednesday before dropping from Thursday.

Cheapest Metro Stations and Brand Averages in the ACT

There's a meaningful spread between what different stations are charging right now. The cheapest metro station came in at 211.9 c/L (Ampol Foodary Canberra Airport, Pialligo), while the most expensive hit 229.9 c/L (BP Nicholls). That's an 18.0c gap, which on a 50-litre tank is the difference between spending about $9 more or less depending on where you stop.

Brand averages confirm this pattern. Among operators with three or more stations, Ampol Foodary averaged 219.4 c/L across 10 sites, while BP averaged 223.4 c/L across 3. That 4.0c gap isn't enormous, but it adds up if you're filling up every week.

Last Week's Best Day to Fill Up

Last Sunday (12 April) was the cheapest day to fill up across the week, with metro U91 sitting at 218.4 c/L. If you managed to fill the tank then, you were paying well below the weekly average.

ACT Metro Petrol Price Forecast: Next Three Days

The short-term outlook for metro U91 is fairly flat. Prices are expected to tick up slightly to 222.2 c/L on Monday, ease back to 221.5 c/L on Tuesday, then nudge up again to 222.7 c/L on Wednesday. All three days sit within about 1 cent of the current metro price of 221.7 c/L, so there's no dramatic swing coming, at least not according to the model.

For context, ACT's metro U91 average of 221.7 c/L is currently 0.7c below the national metro average of 222.4 c/L, which puts Canberra drivers in a slightly better position than most of the country right now.

How to Save on Fuel in the ACT This Week

The 30-day range for metro U91 has run from a low of 199.9 c/L to a high of 261.9 c/L, and at 221.7 c/L, you're sitting closer to the lower end of that window. It's a reasonable time to fill up, not a screaming bargain, but well clear of the recent highs.
